Flickr only allows 200 photos for free. Once you hit the limit, for every photo you add, an old photo in your stream is hidden. It doesn’t save them money. It’s punishment for not “going pro” and getting a paid account. It also provides a great opportunity for users to say, “Gee, do I really like flickr? Is it worth $25/yr forever? Maybe there are other options?”
As unavailable flickr messages start to increasingly appear, this conversation will continue and grow. And that is why I have 198 photos in my flickr photostream and won’t be adding any more.
